Putting It On Paper

There's much more to printing at UVa than appears on this page, but I did want to address one issue that I've gotten questions on: how to configure a laptop or desktop computer to print to the printer in the faculty loungel.

Please fill out the Technology Survey if you have additional questions or comments about printing issues.

Configuring a Computer to Print to Networked Printers in Bryan

On the ITC page given below, there are step-by-step instructions for two different methods of configuring a computer running Windows 95/98 to print to networked printers in Bryan:

The first method involves messing with the Networking software that comes as part of Windows; I have not tested it. The second method involves installing a program called ACITS, and I have successfully used this method on two separate computers. Note that for both methods, your laptop or desktop must be connected to the Ethernet via an Ethernet port or via a wireless card. I think that these methods would probably work equally well for computers running later versions of Windows.

If you have a Mac, see the step-by-step instructions at

Note that this page says, "If you do not know the IP address of the printer contact your department's LSP or local system administrator." Below is the IP address of the printer in the Bryan Hall faculty lounge, which is an HP Laserjet 8000 Series PCL 5e. You will also need the IP number if your computer is running Windows:

128.143.77.253
