The Instructional Toolkit is a web-based course management service that has been developed by ITC and the Instructional Technology Group at the
University of Virginia. Web-based course management tools are very popular now; two of the best-known commercial equivalents to UVa's Instructional Toolkit are WebCT and Blackboard (which are in fact both used in some departments of the university).
One of the best things about having an in-house course-management program is that we here
at UVa have lots of input into the development of the program. Toolkit has changed a lot over the last few years in response to suggestions from faculty and graduate instructors.
Suggestions and requests for help can always be sent to itc-toolkit@virginia.edu. These are heeded.
By far the most helpful information about the Toolkit is to be found in the Toolkit itself; the Help
documentation is very clear, and I don't think I've ever heard that Toolkit is difficult to use. Eventually, we are told, all isntructors will be required to submit their grades through the
Toolkit, so it behooves those who have not tried it to do so with dispatch.
There are short Toolkit training classes held at the beginning of every semester, and I am always available for tutorials.
