Abstract:

Fully realizing the complexity of the Salem trials, this site explores many specific aspects of the events in Salem before, during, and after the trials in attempts to “extract some piece of American identity.” Three parts: 1. Deals with internal tensions/factions before the trials: includes chronology up to trials, economic factionalism, the Puritan framework, and local church and political troubles 2. Gender issues: charts of victims by age and sex, marginalization theme of victims, [not reliable source of information of this topic] 3. Post-trials Salem: how the trials ended, apologies, effects, reconciliation with the Church. Intended for generally college educated, historically interested.
