The vines and flowers create an arabesque surface design, echoed in the vine-and-flower impost. The decorated surface is an essential component of the Romanesque style. The arabesque elements are probably derived from Spanish art, which influenced sites along the pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostella, like Moissac.
