• Look over class website. Focus especially on past projects. 2/3 you will need to come to class with a preliminary idea for a project.
• Introduction to themes of course, and Kepler readings – Submit a journal response electronically. Is Kepler's kind of escape to reality the best response a true scientist can make to events like 9/11? What about an engineer?

• Discuss proposal ideas showed on 2/1, form groups if you feel ready. Bring to class a piece of paper on which you identify your top two project choices, and whether you are already planning on working with a group.

• Write a brief proposal describing your project, keeping in mind the NSF's advice on how to write a good proposal (only one proposal per group). Due TR 2/17.

• Glance at case studies on the web, these will be discussed in class on Tuesday. Email Emily Brumm <elb4f@cms.mail.virginia.edu> with preferences for
  Discussion Leader cases or groups. You must lead one group discussion. You also must chose a case study to attended for each day that you are not leading a discussion. Make the subject line "Case Studies". This information must be emailed by Monday 2/21.

At this point we begin discussion of case-studies created by a team here at the University of Virginia for use in this and other classes. The passwords will be given out in class. The case assignments below will be modified, based on new case work completed this summer--stay tuned for changes!
