A slightly more arguable choice of "collage," however, in contrast to those that were previously listed is the music video for Johnny Cash's cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt."

On many levels, Cash "recycles" and "recombines" old material -- e.g., the song itself as well as the various footage used in the video -- to create a new effect. What, then, constitutes collage within the rather fluid parameters of music videos? Is collage a purely aesthetic discipline (i.e., a visually defined style, as in the first set of videos), or can we view "collage" in music videos as something that is theoretical as well as aesthetic?
