"Uncle Sam's News Reel," To encourage young men to join the Civilian Conservation Corps, the public relations department of the CCC published these "News Reels" that showed the diverse activities the corp offered to its enrollees. Yet these 1940 photographs by Wilfred J. Mead also depicted a time-honored American vision of hardworking men and simpler, happier days.
