The Democratic Candidate of 1928 and His National Chairman, John J Raskob, at the Raskob home in Delaware, October 1928. Smith appointed businessman Raskob his Democratic National Chairman in order to ensure the business community that he would support their interests. Raskob was also a Catholic, but as a Du Pont executive and the VP and Chairman of the Finance Committee of GM, he could help to attract leaders of the business community.
