| 1893 World's Fair Columbian Exposition, "German
Village," To appeal to the large German-American population in Chicago,
the Midway erected a "village" that duplicated German rural life and suggested
the ties that remained between the Old and New Worlds. The Midway also exhibited
an Irish "village" in recognition of the substantial numbers of Irish-Americans
in Chicago. Source: Official Guide Book, 1893. |
