Power of the Body -- by Matt Vierling

My concentration in this project focuses on the human anatomy. As a sculpture concentration, each aspect of my installation will have a three dimensional element to it. Each piece of the project focuses on a particular appendage or section of the body, manipulated in different ways from each other, searching for wholeness of a complete figure. This reference to amputation, stems from an interest in prosthetics and anatomy.

Referring to the theme of printmaking, each piece is an actual print of the figure. This is done through life casting, mostly molds of the artist. The materials which will be used for the molds and the pieces are wax, plaster, and clay, among other materials. There will also be a painting element to the pieces, some of the casts will be breaking through canvas and manipulated with paint.
