KateSpace
-- by Kate Brogdon
Katespace is my space. Kateıs Space. As an active duty Marine, I have moved four times in the last five years and will move again, frequently. Donıt get me wrong, we have stuff: pans and chefıs knife, vcr and computer. But if I had to point to one place that was mine, while there are places Iıd like to return to and places that have fond history for me, there is no ancestral home or childhood room that I wish to claim as my territory. My space is portable and it travels with me. In this same vein, my life falls into three main areas of influence: Marine Corps, school (and art), personal (and art). You can see there is some overlap, especially since my husband, Nathan, is a Marine, a UVa student, and prominent in my artwork. |

To
illustrate my portable, multi-influenced world, I am creating a triangular
enclosure, big enough for me (and other not-too-large people), made of
panels, packaged into a suitcase for ease of portability and installation.
I will use multiple media and materials, but much will be digital and
printed out (like these images). These panels will hold images of my world,
my space, so that when someone enters, they will see the world maybe as
I see it.
