The Invasion of Our Rest/Dream Space: -- by Christian Munoz

The space that I have decided to invade or exploit is the bed space, the space were people rest. This is an area of not only sleep for many people, but for me it is also a space were a lot of my inspiration, and many of my ideas for projects, are conceived whether it be conscience or unconscience. I am willing to explore these ideas and express the space in a manner that other people can understand (which is highly doubtful!). I want to take this space out of context, and locate it in an area where people usually wonąt find a bed or a place to sleep- the art gallery..

The piece will consist of three major structures- the canopy of transparencies, the mannequin, and the mattress of prints. The canopy will be a sandwich of glass and of my own work, (transferred into transparencies), supported above the mannequin and mattress by a wooden frame. Hopefully, the invasion of natural or artificial light will project these images onto the mannequin below. Next, the mannequin will, most likely, be painted in a light color so that the images above are projected in a clear and distinct manner. This mannequin will either be constructed from several pieces, or taken as a whole piece and then transformed, (this has not yet been decided). The point is to disrupt the human figure lying in this bed as to represent the disruption of the rest by these images/dreams. The final part, the mattress will be covered in printed images of my own work. These images represent the work that has been finalized or completed, and the work that will no longer invade the rest space. The mattress sits below all other pieces forming a foundation for the entire work. The piece is subject to much variation during the lengthy process, but hopefully will keep the main idea intact.
