Rebirth -- by Annlies DeWulf

When making prints, I have always loved and identified with the metal surface on which I made my images.  For that reason, I plan to make a piece out of steel and hope to retain the quality of a printmaking surface by manipulating the components.  I hope to create an atmosphere that encompasses the viewer while leaving the piece open enough that the viewerıs eyes will be drawn to his/her natural surroundings.

I would like to put the piece outside where the viewer can see the sky when they look up and trees when they look out.  The work will be a large bowl-shaped structure with a wide slit in it through which the viewer can enter.  The inside of the bowl will have a metallic surface, while the outside will be covered in tile mosaic.  In this way I hope to call to mind both traditional as well as modern art.
