Time assignments for Senior Shows 2004

The time assignments have been recently updated. Due to the fact that the norht building will not be ready in time, there will be three shows instead of two. Below is a breakdown of the information relayed to you today (March 24) during the Guided Tour of the Swing Spaces.

The exhibition spaces and times below were assigned to balance the usage of space based on 2D-3D criteria as well as the likelihood of the student exhibiting in a space of their choice.

You can change your space and time assignment (see column "show opens") but you have to either:
1. switch with a willing colleague
or
2. exhibit outside of the Art Department altogether. In that case, go back for your additional responsibilities

First Show (opens April 2 in South Building)

Second Show (opens April 16 in South Building)

Third Show (opens April 27 in North and South Buildings)

Responsibilities:

You (that means you!) are responsible both for your own participation in the show and for its success as an event. Make sure your work looks great and professional and help the ensemble of the exhibition.

You will get direct help from several people:

1. your faculty advisor - this is the professor that you chose. You should consult him or her for everything that has to do with the artistic part of your work: content, form, quality and aesthetical issues.

2. your faculty coordinator - these are Kevin Everson <ke5d@virginia.edu> and Bogdan Achimescu <ba4y@virginia.edu>. The faculty coordinators deal with the logistics of the shows. They do the scheduling, help you pick locations in the exhibition space, maintain this marvelous web page and buy each of you a Mercedes.

4. your technical advisor - this is Eric Schmidt <ems3z@virginia.edu>. He will assist you with the practical aspects of your installation, open and close the building during installation periods (posted above for each of the 3 shows).

3. your student coordinator - these are volonteers from each group (see above). They coordinate the "museum guard" list, the catering, labeling of works, etc.

The student coordinator's responsibilities:
1. Maintaining a list of "museum guards" and makking sure all the slots corresponding to hours open to the public are covered.
Every student has to perform "museum guard" duty for the equivalent of one day. "Museum guards" that cannot come on a given day have to find a replacement in time.
2. Ensuring there is appropriate labeling for all work. Each person should have the following information on display: one label containing first, last name and concentration, one label (per piece exhibited) with title, one sheet with two paragraphs: one about yourself and one about your work.
3. Coordinating catering. There are no funds for catering. In order to obtain an alcohol licence you need to contact Sylvia New Strawn in the Art Department office at least ten days prior to the event.
