The Swing Space (new)
The Swing Space will be the Studio Art Department's interim space while we wait for our "real" building.
Although its primary purpose is to serve as studio & office space, it will be used for the Spring 2004 Major Shows. It is not conceived as an exhibition space so lighting should be provided for the shows. There is also no 'receptionist' or 'museum guard' :-) you need to provide your own personell.
Fayerweather is the 'official' Fine Arts Gallery.
Hotweather is in fact a passage-way between several spaces inside the Studio Arts building and the sidewalk. Hotweather is a more casual space, sometimes used for critiques and impromptu presentations.
Both Fayerweather and Hotweather have directional lighting on a rail system and the possiblitily of adding high-speed internet access. Natural light is easier to block (e.g. for projection) in Hotweather. Fayerweather is locked outside the office hours, Hotweather is 24-hours accessible (for students who have access to the Arts Building). Fayerweather is only opened during business hours or when required for exhibition purposes. Consequently Fayerweather is safer for computer equipment, etc.
When using the Fayerweather Building you must familiarize yourself with the
Fire Evacuation Plans
During any events that occur on campus (that is in any of the buildings this document is describing) you have to strictly observe UVA's drug & alcohol policies. [this links has recently gone bust. for an alcohol licence see Sylvia New Strawn in the Art Department office in Fayerweather Hall]
