Photographs on the WebJ. David Sapir, Anthropology1997 TTI FellowEmail: ds8s@virginia.eduProject website: http://catlin.clas.virginia.edu/photo/ A number of visually-oriented courses at the University make extensive use of slides during class and rely on the few images reproduced in texts outside of the classroom. The web, however, provides an excellant way of delivering all manner of images to students both in and out of class. A well-designed website can be, in essence, a museum without walls. Professor Sapir has spent a great deal of time creating such web sites, including the nattionally-recognized "Fixing Shadows" site, and plans to expand on that work during his fellowship year. Students in his courses "Culture and History of Photography" and "Anthropology and Photography" will benefit from the project by enriching their "image vocabulary" with this important digital resource.
