VELLA elections

Dear VELLA members,

My name is Greg Petouvis, and I would like to run
for the VELLA treasurer position. I think it's important
to take an active interest in a subject you love outside
the confines of the classroom. I feel that taking an
involved role in VELLA certainly accomplishes this.

Why should the VELLA members vote for me? There are a few
good reasons (other than the fact that I don't have a
criminal record). My undergraduate background at Cornell
University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations
certainly exposed me to the various facets of labor and
employment issues, particularly in the area of law. At
Cornell, I took courses in subjects as wide-ranging as
Labor Law, Collective Bargaining, Labor Economics, Labor
History, Human Resources, and Organizational Behavior. More
recently, for the past semester, I have been employed as Rip
Verkerke's research assistant, and will continue to do so
over this summer.

Specifically relating to finances, I was the financial
director for the Cornell Concert Commission, the
organization which promoted large-scale concerts on the
Cornell Campus (such as Billy Joel, Branford Marsalis,
Blues Traveler, etc.) Specifically, I was responsible for
managing an $80,000+ budget, and appearing in front of the
Student Assembly, successfully raising our annual allotment
to well over $100,000. While VELLA involves finances on a
somewhat smaller scale, the basis principles in financial
management are the same.

So, if you feel I am the right person for the job, vote for
me for VELLA treasurer. Thanks...

Greg Petouvis
